We want to support Children's Town in Zambia

DAPP UK has promised to raise funds to support Children's Town, where over 300 orphans live.

The Children's Town, Zambia

The Big Idea

Children's Town provides education, housing and support for around 300 children that have been left orphaned by the AIDS virus in Zambia. The founder of this project, Moses Zulu, was given a New Hero Award by the Skoll Foundation in 2005 for recognition of his achievements for the people of his country.

Further Details

In 1990 The Children’s Town was founded in Malanbanyama, Zambia, in an attempt to cater for and help the thousands of orphans that the AIDS epidemic was creating. Zambia is one of the countries hardest hit by AIDS; over 19% of adults test positive and around one million children have been orphaned by the virus.
The Children’s Town began with just 2 children in 1990 and now has 300 children being educated, fed and cared for within its buildings, and reaches out to around 6000 orphans across the country. In 2005 Moses Zulu, the town’s founder, was one of fourteen in the world given a New Hero award by the Scoll Foundation chaired by Robert Redford, in recognition of his achievements in the town.
The annual budget to feed, educate and care for a child is just £215, and just £15 will provide educational materials for a year.
